Highlights are defined as lightened pieces of the hair, while lowlights are darker pieces of hair, compared to your natural color. Both highlights and/or lowlights allow you to create definition to your hair, brighten up dull hair, or completely transform your color, depending on the technique.
Foiled Highlights/Lowlights The most popular hair highlighting method used today is foils. When using the foil method, pieces of foil are used to separate the hair that will be colored from the hair that isn't getting changed. Foils are a popular choice when highlighting because you can customize what you want done, the options are limitless. The hair can be weaved and sliced using the foil to create the exact chunks, or streaks to get exactly what you want. Highlighting is usually preferred because highlights can be placed very close to the scalp without causing irritation to the scalp. This process can take two to four hours depending on how long your hair is, the thickness, and what you desire it to look like as the end result. Balayage Highlights/Lowlights Balayage highlights are free-hand painted onto the hair. There is no right or wrong way to balayage, so it will give your colorist a lot of freedom, while doing your hair. These highlights/lowlights allow you to have a more natural, sun-kissed look. These highlights are more subtle than foil highlights. Cap Highlights These highlights are not as common in modern salons today. Cap highlighting methods utilize a highlighting cap that is placed on the person's head. Then there are small pieces of hair pulled through the cap. The hair that is pulled through the cap is the hair that is highlighted. Cap highlights are less expensive and less time consuming, but the options are more limited with this technique. ~Outer Image

What is a balayage? Balayage is a French word that means to sweep or to paint. By getting a balayage in your hair, it allows you to have a sun-kissed, natural looking hair color. How is balayage applied? Balayage is applied to the surface of the hair, not saturated through the section until the very tips of the hair. This could also be called a freehand technique because there is no foils used to create the highlights. Maintenance of Balayage Balayage does not require a lot of maintenance. When it grows out, it grows out beautifully and naturally so you don't get an obvious regrowth line. Also this hair technique allows you to wear it longer between appointments because of it looking so natural. All you need to do to protect your balayage like you would with any other color. You should use a color protecting shampoo and conditioner, regular treatments, and use heat protection when styling it. Hair types and Lengths Balayage is great for all hair types and most lengths. The only hair length it doesn't work well with is short, cropped hair. It works great for both light and dark hair, so anyone can experience having balayage. If you want to try balayage in your hair call the salon today to make your appointment! ~Outer Image What is a Brazilian Blowout?
